HT to
for putting the subject of today’s post on my radar! In 2022, Natasha Lyonne hosted the season finale of Saturday Night Live, a show I’ve loved since I was a kid. To hear her tell it, it was a great experience, very “New York,” very busy, and even inspiring. The only downside? That she didn’t have time for naps, which are part of her usual routine.
My relationship with Natasha Lyonne, whom I’ve never met, starts at some point in the mid-90s. I saw Dennis the Menace and so presumably saw her play Polly (I have no recollection of this). I was aware of But I’m a Cheerleader but have not yet seen it (and probably never will?). I saw Woody Allen’s Everyone Says I Love You in college (late 90s), and by that time, I recognized her as the girl from American Pie, which I saw in the theater (I saw it the weekend it opened, one of the most fun moviegoing experiences of my life).
Hen’s relationship with her, on the other hand, goes back to high school, which he attended with her at Ramaz in NYC. Her real name is Natasha Braunstein, and Hen says she was basically never there. That’s all he really has to say about that, so far as I can tell.
Not much more to say at this point, but knowing that she’s a famous (and proud) napper, and having spent 25 years carrying the nugget that she and Hen went to high school together, I had to get this out. Happy napping, Natasha!
