Definitely some dissension in the ranks here — hopefully that’s not another inadvertently offensive saying (I feel like I learn of a new one every few weeks). The question is how do you like to nap? Sitting up? Lying down? In bed? Pillows? Lots to consider.
Horizontal Nap
No brainer
Why stand when you can sit? Why sit when you can lie down? I think more of the nuance lies in where you take it. On the couch? In bed? Under the covers?
When I have my druthers — this phrase first appeared in the 1800s and comes from the combination of the words “would rather” (h/t to my buddy Ken) — I prefer a horizontal nap in bed over the covers with my dog near me (Alfie also loves a good nap, and don’t judge us for letting him in our bed). That said, you can’t always get what you want, so what then?
Seated Nap
The cheese stands alone (actually, he’s with Hen here)
I’m the only one among us who on occasion seeks out a seated nap other than on a plane. Here is a picture of me napping on the day of a wedding this fall.
Res ipsa loquitur. It was great. Everybody was watching Hocus Pocus 2 —women in their 30s sharing the nostalgia, my girls mesmerized as they are with anything on a screen — so I figured nobody would mind if I lost some consh. Nobody did. In fact, it seems they found it puzzling/amusing. No regerts!
