It’s the end of our week of worldly napservations. I’ve greatly enjoyed the opportunity to combine my love of travel and deep appreciation of the nap with all of you. Today’s final post brings us to Arenal, a small city in Costa Rica most known for its still active volcano.
We traveled to Costa Rica during the rainy season, which means that for a short time each day the skies open up and tourists generally retreat to their hotel rooms for a quiet nap. Who was I to challenge such a tradition?
Lo and behold, on our first day in Arenal, in the early afternoon, it started to rain. This was the kind of rain that you hear in sound machines and on relaxation apps. It sounded as if each drop were trying to touch the ground as gently as possible.
Our hotel room had a little covered patio with two chairs looking out at the volcano in the distance. You could actually see a little of the smoke billowing out of the top of the mountain, tempered ever so slightly by the daily rainfall in Arenal.
And just like that my eyes grew heavy. The sound of the rain, the subtle flow of smoke from the volcano, the quietness of my surroundings. And there I was, napping away as the rains entered and exited this Costa Rican city. A worldly napservation indeed.
