What’s better than napping? Napping with a furry critter curled up next to you. I’ve always been a napper but haven’t been a dog owner until three years ago and I feel like naps have since been enhanced. Maybe dogs provide a napping cheat code?
Although it’s preferable to sleep at colder temperatures, it’s soothing to have a warm beast next to you. This is especially so in the winter months when some extra heat is often welcome. It’s also nice when they are right next to you and their breathing is nice and slow. If you’re amped up and want to calm down, you can focus on and mimic their breath rate.
Now, onto scritches. Giving scritches while falling asleep can be soothing for both you and your fuzzy friend. But they could distract you from losing consciousness if that’s a goal; either because you are focusing on giving scritches or because once you stop, you get prompted by a nose boop for more, and how could you resist such a face?
Aside from training, what better way to strengthen the bond you have with your four-legged best friend than napping together? Sleeping is a behavior that all animals can appreciate, especially when it’s a lazy, hot summer afternoon that’s just begging for a nap.
