Mr. King works from home in Chicagoland — he does freelance work when he’s not recording episodes of NBSR, which itself takes almost 40 hours per episode for him and his team to produce.1 Like Scooter, he gets up around 7:30 each day and has the luxury of napping when he hits the afternoon wall — and he indulges in that luxury at least five days a week!
Mr. King’s preferred nap routine begins with a Yoga Nidra meditation, often with the Waking Up app.2 These meditations are 35 or so minutes long, and he usually loses consh within five, meaning he’s napping for 30 minutes. He also requires a fan to be blowing in the room — he and the K-Man are kindred spirits!
If he were writing the script, Mr. King would love to see NBSR catch the attention of a traditional brand (e.g., Royal Crown Cola) or the likes of Wes Anderson — hey, I can relate to having ambitious goals!3 We at TND are doing our part to spread the gospel of Mr. King and NBSR and, to that end, highly recommend you check it out.
In the meantime, drift off with WSLP AM!
That team includes Phil Hunter (an old friend), Corrbette Pasko (as Dana Dedrick, the “your drifting off” voice), Joshua Wayne Hensley (a pal from the great band The Rutabega who did the WSLP AM jingle), and of course, Mrs. King.
No affiliation between TND and WU. I also know that Sam Harris has been a polarizing character at times — not endorsing him, though I will note that I find him super interesting. Check out this fascinating episode of his podcast, where he interviews Joseph Goldstein, one of the founders of the Insight Meditation Society. They get way out there re meditation and such — it’s awesome.
Still working on getting freelance work in the mainstream media, and I’m beginning to put together a book pitch!
